Wandering around in the desert was a really bad idea. Anyone with the capacity to recognize temperature could tell you that. Even so, there were so many things outside of that that the average traveler did well to recognize. Poisonous creatures, giant monsters, the crippling lack of water; the dangers were nearly limitless.
And then there were the Kung-Fu Jugon. Short creatures with stubby arms, cat-like faces, carapaces resembling turtle shells on their back and on top of their heads and no visible mode of locomotion other than a small fish like tail at the end of their pudgy bodies. On the surface, they looked like harmless little creatures, traveling from place to place in tight-knit packs (or pods, or whatever they were called.). But to the young man staring up the hill at them, they were anything but cute and harmless.
He wiped sweat from his brow, smarting from an assortment of tiny wounds from an assortment of tiny blows. He had been trying to get past them for the last forty-five minutes, but every time it was to no avail. Lin Shiyao was by no means a slouch in hand-to-hand combat, and the monsters coming down the hill were anything but strong, but thanks to their sheer numbers and their bizarre fighting style, he had been soundly repulsed every time. Eventually, getting past wasn't even the issue anymore (though Lin could clearly see the city off in the distance.). Now, he was concerned with winning; he was not about to walk into town, having been beaten by a gang of tiny sea-lion-turtle things, even if they knew Kung Fu.
"Hmmph." He braced himself to go running back into the crowd, hands out in vicious looking claws. "Here I come! Lightning!" He charged, swinging a hand at the first Jugon he could find. Skin hit blubber with a solid smack, and Lin brought back his other hand for a strike. "Thund... waargh!"
He was hit with a tiny fist from the side, and was miraculously sent flying straight up into the air. Another Jugon got underneath the unfortunate bounty hunter and punched upward with the same twisting motion. And so on and so forth; Lin was juggled in the air like a rubber ball before being uncerimoniously smacked right back down the hill, where he rolled and bounced in the soft sand. Lin struggled to his feet. "Darn it. What are these things?"
The monster's only response was a group "Hi-yah!"

Kelekona wondered around the city of Arabasta. She had finished if shopping and now she was just enjoying her time in the land of sand. It was nice but she missed the forest. The open space of sand was a bit to much for her. All there is to do is walk about burn in the sun light. Its all just a vacation to her and obviously is one. Kelekona stopped to get some water because she plans to have a bit of a walk threw the desert. Maybe she'd see some wild life. As she walked out into the desert she saw only rocks and sand for a while. It was kind of boring but the heat felt nice. It wasn't that bad of a hot day.
She walked and walked, then drank and drank. Finally she found something interesting. Some guy was being used as a beach ball. It was a pretty sad sight. What kind of man lets animals beat him up. Kelekona thought about helping him. She just stared at him for a bit while slurping some water. Finally she decided to do something. She ran over to a near by rock and it was a big one. Which was lucky. She jumped onto the rock and ran across, which wasn't that far. Then she jumped off it doing a dive bomb kick with all her strength to kick the sand in the middle of them to blast the sand hard enough to make everyone go flying in the opposite direction. Though the monsters probably didn't move an inch but obviously the jugon and the man did. "Whats with the fight, ya bunch of brats!?" She slurped some more water while she waited for a reaction.

Suddenly the center of the pod (or school, or whatever it's called) erupted in a mass of sand and perturbed jugon. (Or at least, he thought so. They still had the same happy, vacant expression on their faces.) Lin took a step back, thinking the area was being bombed, but looking at the "explosion" site, he could see somebody standing up. A woman? What kind of technique did she use to get that kind of power?
Scrambling up the hill, he vaulted over jugon heads, taking advantage of the temporary confusion to land a few choice smacks to the seal creatures as he climbed. He scrambled to the lady's side and turned to face the approaching jugon. "You're help is appreciated. But these creatures are far tougher than they look." He settled into his familiar stance. "Watch your flank, miss."
He charged off after the jugon once again, emboldened now that their ranks were scattered. "I'm gonna make you pay, seal things. Light-waah!" Sand was one of the few surfaces Lin had no training fighting on. Running downhill, full tilt, he had neglected to take the sand into consideration, and true to form, it gave way under his feet. He slipped, tripped, rolled down the hill, and landed right in the punching flipper of his prey. Oof! Oh, not again! Ow! Ouch! I hate these things!"
